IMG_2971I can have a hard time finding granola cereals I like in the store – they either aren’t nutty enough, or they add cinnamon or some other ingredient I don’t want in my cereal. So I decided to try my hand at making some at home.

I started with the base of Alton Brown’s recipe on Food Network website, and tweaked it, adding some more ingredients I like and leaving out the coconut his called for. It came out pretty good, if I do say so myself.

Ingredients
3½ cups rolled oats
1 cup slivered almonds
1 cup cashews pieces
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup honey
1/3 cup vegetable oil
¾ teaspoon salt
¾ cup raisins
¾ cup of dried cranberries
½ cup of shelled pumpkin seeds
½ cup of shelled sunflower seeds

Directions
Preheat oven to 250 degrees F.

In a large bowl, combine the oats, nuts, seeds and brown sugar.

In a separate bowl, combine honey, oil, and salt. Combine both mixtures and pour onto 2 sheet pans. Cook for 1 hour and 15 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes to achieve an even color.

Remove from oven and transfer into a large bowl. Add raisins and cranberries and mix until evenly distributed.
