The-GiverI’m reading “The Giver” by Lois Lowry. I’m not very far into it yet – I just started yesterday. But I’m intrigued so far by the nightly ritual of sharing feelings.

On one hand, it seems very controlling, making each individual share something so private with others in the community. Their most vulnerable moments can’t even be kept to themselves.

On the other hand, there is something therapeutic, cathartic about releasing fears, anxieties, worries.

Even if you don’t HAVE to share your feelings to an audience, it can be good to get it out, work through it, if not verbally maybe in your mind or on paper.

I think this is going to be an interesting book.

I’m usually erring on the side of NOT sharing so many feelings. My enthusiastic feelings can be just a little much for some people. And my annoyed feelings just aren’t the way I want to express myself on a regular basis.

It’s good to acknowledge feelings and understand them so you can go with the good ones and let the bad ones go.

It’s me. I’m the writer on this wall. I’ve been having my way with words since 1993.

I started writing professionally while I was still a college student. I’m a wife, mother, foodie, artist, news junkie and recovering journalist.

I’ve worked in higher education communications since 2016 at my alma mater, Fresno State. My professional writing work can be found at Fresno State News.

Before, I was a print journalist with The Fresno Bee for almost 19 years. When that part of my professional career ended, I pivoted to a different direction.

I’m active with my church, Community United Church of Christ, an inclusive and progressive Christian church in Fresno, California.
